Rev. Dr. Robert Henderson

Rev. Henderson provided a very moving and personalized ceremony that many of our guests later said was the best ceremony they have ever seen. He was very easy to work with, and we certainly didn’t make that easy for him! My husband was living and working overseas during the planning process, so our first meeting with Rev. Henderson was conducted with the bride in Connecticut, and the groom a continent away via Skype. (He said this was a first for him, and he was very excited to meet via Skype!) He continued to work with our crazy schedule and last-minute requests providing the calm, professional presence that we needed. On the day of our wedding, my husband was pretty nervous, but he told me later that, “As soon as I saw that Bob was there, I calmed right down. I knew everything was going to be fine.” And it was. Bob provided a very warm and sweet service for our wedding. The service was organized well despite the facility not holding rehearsals (we did our own). Also, he made it feel like a close family event that we will never forget. thank you.

Dr. Robert Henderson was a wonderful officiant. DJ Sam of Atmosphere Productions recommended him to us and we are so happy that he did. Dr. Henderson was willing to help us create a most unique ceremony. Last year, after having been partners for nearly 16 years, we decided to make our relationship official in the eyes of the law and to enjoy the ceremonial rite of marriage. Living in Florida, it became clear that the effort of planning a long distance wedding in Connecticut was going to be a daunting task. Our biggest issue was coming to an agreement on who would officiate our wedding. Having come from two different religious backgrounds, it became difficult for us to merge our thoughts on how to find a member of the clergy to perform the service. Having both experienced anti-gay messages within our respective religions, we were both somewhat apprehensive about how to proceed. Fortunately, we discovered the Reverend Dr. Rob Henderson of the United Church of Christ on Martha Stewart’s wedding website. We knew that we would have to personally meet Dr. Henderson to be able to make a final decision about our comfort level with him. As fortune would have it, Dr. Henderson happened to be finishing up his vacation in, of all places, Florida! He very graciously agreed to forgo some of his free time and allow us to go meet him. The encounter began with his honest admission of never having performed a same-sex marriage before and in the same moment sharing his excitement at the possibility. We spent quite a bit of time speaking about our vision for our wedding (we were rather clueless) and he was phenomenal in helping to guide us in our inexperience. By the time we had left our first meeting, we knew that he was the person we wanted to marry us. It was evident very early on that he was very invested in ensuring that our wedding be as perfect for us as it could possibly be. Throughout the remainder of the planning period, Dr. Henderson was easily accessible and able to answer any questions that we had. He helped to keep us on track in planning the ceremony. He offered guidance and suggestions, but always allowed us to determine what worked best for us and what did not. Throughout the process, he worked tirelessly with us to ensure that our wedding rehearsal and the ceremony itself were professional and went off without a hitch. He performed a traditional wedding ceremony with a few modern twists that had our guests in tears. Many went out of their way to tell us how wonderful the service was and how warm Dr. Henderson had been with everyone. We now consider him to be a part of our family. We highly recommend Dr. Henderson for your wedding service. We would also be very happy to speak personally with anyone who would prefer to discuss this recommendation. Mr. Henderson was awesome. We are Catholic, but wanted to get married outside, so we didn't go through the church. Mr. Henderson is a Reverend, and has his PhD in psychology as well (I think). He was so kind and loving- from my very first conversation on the phone with him, he told me what an important event this was, how serious he takes it, how honored he was to be a part of this day. He gave us awesome suggestions and ideas about the ceremony- very touching, unique things. I had more comments after the ceremony about how incredible it was- I was shocked. I don't ever remember telling anyone what a great ceremony they had; I usually rave about the wedding in general. But so many people commented and complimented us on the ceremony, and this is due to Mr. Henderson. I highly, HIGHLY recommend such a kind, warm gentlemen to do their service!
